What does Au-pair mean
The French term ‘Au-pair’ means ‘on par’ or equal, to explain a relationship based on reciprocity. Au-pair means giving and receiving, it means rights and duties, but stands also for respect and tolerance towards other people and other cultures.
As an Au-pair you will be temporarily welcomed by a host family and you will be able to learn both the language and culture of the hosting country. You will learn a lot, not only from other people around you but also about yourself. You will have the possibility to grow and to improve your professional chances. In return, you will help the family with childcare and housework.

For many years, MoverLab has been involved in following young people in their personal and professional growth in the phase between school and working life, through the implementation of mobilities abroad. MoverLab hosts students and apprentices from several EU countries and assists them during their stay and their internships in the Florentine area.
Our agency has developed the offer of an “Au Pair” stay for young Italians abroad, especially in Germany. We work in cooperation with our German partner in Nuremberg within the RAL Quality Mark System.
Care and support provided by qualified and experienced people before and during the Au-pair stay means a higher guarantee in intermediation, a successful stay and an efficient management and trouble-solving.
Costs to be paid by the Au-pair
- travel expenses to and from the destination
- agency fee of 300,00 €
You can apply if you
- Have a good standard of language spoken in the destination country, experience in childcare and housework
- are aged between 18 and 26 years
- are healthy, resilient and possibly a non-smoker
Duration
- Generally 12 months, but shorter periods are also possible
The Au-pair duties
- childcare and assistance to the host family with light housework (eg. preparing simple meals, washing the dishes, hovering, ironing, tidying up his/her own room and children’s bedrooms, etc…)
- 2-3 times a week evening baby sitting
- work schedule: 6 hours a day, max. 30 hours per week
What the host family offers
- Board and accommodation (single room)
- monthly pocket money of 260,00 €
- health, accident and liability insurance
- at least one free day per week
- possibility to attend a language course
- possibility of holidays in stays of at least 6 months
